By Target Medicine, UCL Medical School

Location

Description

Before applying, please ensure you meet the following criteria. You must:

- be a year 12 student who wants to study medicine

- attend a non-selective state school with a London postcode (E, EC, N, NW, SW, SE, W, EC), or a non-selective state school in the boroughs of Brent, Barnet, Enfield or Waltham Forest

- have achieved GCSE grade B or above in English Language and Maths

PLEASE NOTE: If you are accepted onto the scheme you will be required to attend the compulsory Introductory Session. This is currently booked for Wednesday 13th January, 6-8pm in Central London however it is subject to change. We will confirm this as soon as possible, and if it does change it will be around this date so you should make sure you are available. Parents/Carers are also encouraged to attend (unfortunately we cannot allow other family members or friends unless absolutely necessary, ie due to childcare issues). Venue details will be forwarded nearer the time.

If the Mentoring Scheme is over-subscribed applications from students who attend UCL Target Schools and non-selective state schools in Camden, Islington, Haringey, Hackney and Westminster will be given priority.

Completing the application form

To apply you need to "buy" a ticket and upon completion will receive an "order confirmation". Please note, there are no charges involved with Target Medicine and the order confirmation is not a guarantee of your place, it is simply the terminology used by the website.

There is a time limit of 4 hours to complete the application form. Therefore we would recommend drafting your application in a Word document and then copying and pasting the information over to the online form. Once you have submitted your application you will receive a confirmation email with a copy of your answers attached.

The deadline for submission is 9th November 2015. You will be contacted by 9th December 2015 and told if you have been accepted onto the scheme. As you can imagine, we receive hundreds of application forms so please do not contact us to chase up your application.

It is vital that you are happy with your answers before submitting your application as it cannot be amended afterwards.

About the Target Medicine Mentoring Scheme

The Target Medicine Mentoring Scheme matches teams of volunteer UCL medical students with sixth form students from London-based, non-selective state schools who want to study medicine. It aims to give AS/A2 students a better understanding of what is needed to be a successful applicant to medical school and provides structured support and guidance to them during the application process.

The scheme takes place on Wednesday evenings over the calendar year and students work with their mentors on the sessions land events at the UCL Bloomsbury campus.

Unfortunately we are not able to accept applications from private school or international students.
